Theres gotta be more to it then waking up, taking class, socializing, coming back home, eating, drinking and watching TV, going to sleep and then starting all over again. Or more than if one substitutes taking class for a nine to five job. No ones leaving a mark on the world through that, and no altering the economy zero-point a hundred decimal places one doesn't count. Then whats the point of life? Getting married, having babies and then having them do the same ? That doesn't change much either. Its probably our routine and conventionalism thats destroying us. And the little bubble we have around us which limits our priorities to cooking the perfect daal chawal or a certain contract or meeting a deadline. Learn something new, try a musical instrument, a sport, another hobby. Take an interest in the world (gossip does not count). Do something more. And not just to keep up with your neighbor. Make a difference, change something, help someone, it enriches your life more than you think. Go crazy. Live. Don't waste away your life being on auto pilot.
Break out of the routine, it prevents the burnout everyone complains about too.
" Ambition beyond existence is the essential purpose of our being"
(Kahlil Gibran).

Surah Al-An'am
"He it is created you from clay, and then decreed a stated term (for you). And there is in His presence another determined term; yet ye doubt within yourselves."
:D life does have a purpose. A veryyyyyyyyyyy big purpose :p if only we could see it.

A very commonly accepted belief, but a very important one. Perhaps only few could have placed the importance of such a topic in mere words as well as you did. Great job :)

See FadingRed, this self realization you might've had whenever, is something all of us who possess the ability to think and analyze, have experienced. The fact of the matter is that this world is a confusing sort of a thing, there are so many people in different parts of the world, how many of them have we even heard about? Even the successful among them evade us.
The fact of the matter is, the purpose of life is not recognition. The purpose is contentment.
In your own, tiny little world, as long as you mess up, keep experimenting, finding new stuff around you, have that jaw-dropping experience once inawhile and your content with the people around you, you'll perpetually be climbing your success-ladder. Incorporate all of this in both your personal and (when the time is right) your professional life and you might get what I mean.
Don't be bummed by the monotony of life, you just have to get out there and perpetually find new ingredients to add to teh stew.

@ Anonymous Radio Guy.
Im sure ppl have experienced it before me, Im still growing up :)
When i talk about how nobody leaves a mark on the world, I meant to belittle some of the more frivolous things people waste their lives after and to rethink priorities, not to advocate being in the limelight.

Some of those frivolous things make us who we are.
I was once a staunch advocate of belittling frivolous things and trust me, that didn't work out too well. You don't have to give up the frivolous things. Just, find a balance, I guess?
I think as simple human beings, we can only try to make the best of our time on this planet and this includes keeping up with all religious, moral and social responsibilities etc.
And yes, its okay for all the responsibilities to not be in exact proportion.
You sound pretty intelligent, you'll be just fine, inshAllah. =>
